{"id":13233,"date":"2018-08-22T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/most-popular-employee-perk-is-time\/"},"modified":"2022-10-11T05:34:43","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T09:34:43","slug":"most-popular-employee-perk-is-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/most-popular-employee-perk-is-time\/","title":{"rendered":"And The Most Popular Employee Perk Is\u2026Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A survey of 1,227 working U.S. adults asked respondents to rank their top five popular work perks in order of preference.\u00a0 For the purpose of the study, work perks were defined as non-insurance or retirement benefits.\u00a0 Although the results were not all that surprising, they are worth reflecting on because they provide clear insights on what employees want from a total benefits package.\u00a0 According to the survey, three of the five most-favored perks were paid family leave, flexible\/remote work options, and sabbatical leave.\u00a0 These preferences, which transcend generations, emphasize that employees value benefits that give them time and flexibility with work.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/18-0821-Blog-1-1.png\" alt=\"18 0821 Blog - 1\" width=\"974\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whether it is to de-stress, be a caregiver, or pursue personal\/professional development, employees want the opportunity to address what is most important to them, and extra\/flexible time allows them to do so.\u00a0 With employers increasingly offering unlimited time off and flexible work schedules, companies that do not provide benefits to address time management will likely suffer from challenges in recruiting and retention.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to time management topping the list, health and wellness benefits ranked highly amongst employees as well.\u00a0 Gym memberships or onsite fitness center, healthy snacks, fitness goal incentives, and health coaching also topped the list.\u00a0 Coupled with time off and flexible work schedules as tools to maintain health, it is clear that personal well-being continues to be an area where employees expect companies to provide assistance.\u00a0 Financial planning resources also made the list, which highlights the broader perspective employees are taking when considering their well-being.<\/p>\n<p>The survey, which looked at all generations in the workforce, had similar results for millennials.\u00a0 Like the general population, millennials prefer time benefits over other perks, with paid family leave, flexible\/remote work options, and sabbatical leave ranking in the top four.\u00a0 Unlike the general population, student loan repayment was a higher priority, ranking as the second most popular perk.\u00a0 This is likely due to the number of millennials that entered the workforce with large amounts of student debt and a job market that did not allow them to pay off the loans quickly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/18-0821-Blog-2-1.png\" alt=\"18 0821 Blog - 2\" width=\"974\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Awareness for time off and flexible work schedules is high amongst employers.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.worldatwork.org%2FdA%2F2a9cbe4260%2FPaid-Time-Off-Programs-Practices-2016.pdf&amp;esheet=51850986&amp;newsitemid=20180809005704&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=88+percent&amp;index=3&amp;md5=7a2a604697fefbd699ae705cfd5b894a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eighty-eight percent<\/a> of companies think they need to offer paid family leave to be competitive.\u00a0 Despite this awareness and research like the Unum survey, paid family leave\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pewresearch.org%2Ffact-tank%2F2017%2F03%2F23%2Faccess-to-paid-family-leave-varies-widely-across-employers-industries%2F&amp;esheet=51850986&amp;newsitemid=20180809005704&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=varies+widely&amp;index=4&amp;md5=942c5f54ee3ab2fac59b3de00a5619ce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">varies widely<\/a>\u00a0across employers and industries.\u00a0 With a tightening labor market, employees often are making decisions based on workplace perks that they value.\u00a0 Employers that lead the way in addressing the needs of their employees will create a foundation of success through the talent they are able to recruit and retain at their firms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A survey of 1,227 working U.S. adults asked respondents to rank their top five popular work perks in order of preference.
