Before diving deeper into why, the obvious question of \u201cWhat is Pok\u00e9mon Go?\u201d needs to be answered.<\/p>\n<p>In simple terms, Pok\u00e9mon Go uses a phone\u2019s GPS and clock to detect where and when a user is in the game and make Pok\u00e9mon &#8220;appear&#8221; (on a phone screen). A user\u2019s goal is to go and catch the Pok\u00e9mon. As you move around, different and more types of Pok\u00e9mon will appear depending on where a user is and what time it is. The idea is to encourage users to travel around the real world to catch Pok\u00e9mon in the game. This combination of a game and the real world interactions is known as &#8220;augmented reality.&#8221; The game is so popular that it\u2019s on the verge of overtaking Twitter in terms of daily active users on Android. Did we mention the game is a little more than a week old?<\/p>\n<p>The game has become so popular that people are hunting down Pok\u00e9mon on their office desks, in hospital rooms, and even in bathrooms. One teenage girl even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mensxp.com\/technology\/gaming\/31418-this-teenage-girl-found-a-dead-body-while-playing-the-new-viral-game-pokemon-go.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found a dead body<\/a> while looking for Pok\u00e9mon, and police in Missouri\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2016\/7\/10\/12139968\/cops-pokemon-go-used-to-lure-victims-of-armed-robbery-spree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that four suspected robbers lured in victims with the possibility of Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/pokemon-go-compilation_2058_0_0.jpg\" alt=\"Pok\u00e9mon Go: The Next Best Health App?\" width=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So how is Pok\u00e9mon a health app? To hatch a new Pok\u00e9mon from an egg, players have to walk one kilometer, as measured by the phone\u2019s sensors. Driving is out of the question, as users must stay below the 10 or 15-mile-per-hour speed limit. For an addictive game, that means lots of walking. One player <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pokemongoSF\/comments\/4s88qx\/progress_report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">even logged 24 miles<\/a> over the course of a couple of days walking around San Francisco. While the game has limited data due to its newness, anecdotal evidence shows that Pok\u00e9mon Go could be a boon to an individual\u2019s exercise and well-being.
