Positive emotions appear to invigorate human beings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When we ask business leaders whether or not they believe that happy and healthy employees perform better, the answer is unequivocally yes (this is even before this piece of research).\u00a0 However, when we ask them if they systematically invest in making their employees happier and healthier, the answer is usually no or kind of.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/wpid-photo-jun-3-2013-1430.jpg\" alt=\"Happy employees equals happy customers\" width=\"746\" \/><br \/>\nThese types of responses in the face of growing volumes of research connecting happiness, health, and engagement to productivity, which also happens also to be consistent with leaderships\u2019 personal views, amaze the entire Wellable team.\u00a0 If the research shows the connection and personal views are consistent with the research, why don\u2019t management teams immediately establish a Chief Happiness Officer?<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, we don\u2019t have the answer.\u00a0 All we can do is push research like this to the forefront and encourage management teams to act.\u00a0 The reason happiness leads to increases in productivity is that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inc.com\/jessica-stillman\/happiness-makes-your-brain-work-better.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the brain works much better<\/a>\u00a0when a person is feeling positive.\u00a0 When happy, individuals tend to be more creative and better at solving problems.\u00a0 Also, additional research has shown that when workers are happy,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/martinzwilling\/2014\/12\/02\/how-to-squeeze-productivity-from-employee-happiness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they are more effective collaborators<\/a>\u00a0and work toward common goals.<\/p>\n<p>If that doesn\u2019t convince you, perhaps this will.\u00a0 Professor Andrew Oswald from the study provides a short case study on one of the greatest American companies today: Google.\u00a0 \u201cCompanies like Google have invested more in employee support and employee satisfaction has risen as a result. \u00a0For Google, it rose by 37%, they know what they are talking about. \u00a0Under scientifically controlled conditions, making workers happier really pays off.\u201d\u00a0 Specifically, we love this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/2015-04-08-how-google-cut-3-million-calories-from-employee-diets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affordable and effective way Google has kept their employees happy and healthy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The good news for leadership is that because most management teams fail to act on employee happiness, there is a huge competitive advantage for those that do.\u00a0 Google is a perfect example of how a company can become a market leader in so many areas simply by investing in their best asset, their people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New research suggests that happiness makes employees more productive at work. 12% more productive to be exact.
