{"id":14899,"date":"2014-08-06T15:02:09","date_gmt":"2014-08-06T15:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/2014-08-06-3-tips-to-encourage-employee-wellness-chatter\/"},"modified":"2022-10-13T03:47:43","modified_gmt":"2022-10-13T07:47:43","slug":"2014-08-06-3-tips-to-encourage-employee-wellness-chatter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/2014-08-06-3-tips-to-encourage-employee-wellness-chatter\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Tips To Encourage Employee Wellness Chatter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn2.hubspot.net\/hubfs\/226537\/Imported_Blog_Media\/people_talking_hr2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wellable.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/people_talking_hr2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"business group standing around water cooler.\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>\u201c<strong>Do you want to walk outside for our 2pm meeting?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many points does your team have for the August competition, we were in fourth place last time I checked?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Have you tried the 8am spinning class at Equinox?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a good sign if your employees are talking and asking about wellness at work \u2013 we call this wellness chatter.\u00a0 Wellness chatter keeps the wellness program alive and encourages participation.\u00a0 Talking about wellness implants wellness into the company culture and helps maintain a successful and high-engagement wellness program and also prevents wellness from getting lost amongst other workplace priorities and initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Successful wellness chatter is organic, not forced.\u00a0 While not forced, wellness chatter can and should be encouraged.\u00a0 Providing the right environment and tools to encourage wellness talk is key\u2026 here are three tips to help:<\/p>\n<p><!--space--><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" id=\"1-official-start\">#1: Official Start<\/h3>\n<p>Make sure that your wellness program has a formal start.\u00a0 An official kick-off event is a great way to jumpstart the program and bring awareness.\u00a0 For smaller companies, we recommend blocking off 20 minutes on all employees\u2019 calendars and bringing the whole company together in one location.\u00a0 For larger companies this can be accomplished with video conferencing across multiple locations.\u00a0 Use this kick-off meeting to connect wellness to company\u2019s mission and to unveil the new wellness program, answer any questions, and allow employees to start chatting about the program.\u00a0 If a budget allows, a healthy company lunch is a nice added touch.\u00a0 Make sure that senior leaders are involved in the kick-off so that employees understand wellness is a priority for the company.\u00a0 Bringing the company together makes a powerful statement that wellness is a company-wide initiative.\u00a0 A kick-off event will create buzz for the program and get employees talking about wellness from day 1.<\/p>\n<p><!--space--><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" id=\"2-teams\">#2: Teams<\/h3>\n<p>Incorporating teams into a wellness program adds a social component and can encourage wellness chatter.\u00a0 Team members can help encourage, remind, and support other team members throughout the program.\u00a0 There are a number of ways to add a team component \u2013 one way is to create team-based wellness challenges. Having teams makes it easier to organize a group activity like a walking meeting or a gym workout.\u00a0 For some, team-based wellness activities may simply be another opportunity to socialize while doing something healthy.\u00a0 Regardless of the exact role teams play in a wellness program they will create additional wellness chatter.<\/p>\n<p><!--space--><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" id=\"3-reminders\">#3: Reminders<\/h3>\n<p>To keep employees talking about wellness it\u2019s important to remind them about wellness.\u00a0 Employee wellness communication should come in a number of forms (email, in-person, and text are a few options).\u00a0 We encourage employers to put up a wellness fact flyer in break room or communal space.\u00a0 A short but interesting wellness fact flyer can help keep wellness chatter going and subtly remind employees about the program.\u00a0 Be careful \u2013 finding the right communication
